Karadeniz Technical University Becomes a Member of the Turkic Universities Union (TÜRKÜNİB)

At the 8th General Assembly Meeting of the Turkic Universities Union (TÜRKÜNİB), held in Tashkent on 15 October 2025, our University successfully completed the membership application process it had been pursuing since 2024 and officially became a member of this highly significant organization for the academic community of the Turkic World.

What is the Turkic Universities Union (TÜRKÜNİB)?

The Turkic Universities Union (TÜRKÜNİB) is a multilateral network of universities established to promote academic cooperation, mobility, and a shared higher education vision among universities across the Turkic World, particularly those in member states of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS). TÜRKÜNİB views higher education as a unifying instrument for the Turkic World and aims to foster institutionalized academic integration based on a shared history, language, and cultural heritage.

The Union was founded in 2013 under the leadership of the Council of Higher Education of Türkiye (YÖK) and within the framework of the Turkic Council (now the Organization of Turkic States). Initially bringing together universities from Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and later Uzbekistan, the Union has gradually expanded its membership. Beyond functioning as a conventional association of rectors, TÜRKÜNİB focuses on concrete outcomes such as joint degree programs, student and academic staff mobility, quality assurance, curriculum harmonization, and collaborative research areas.

Core Objectives of TÜRKÜNİB

  • Establishing a Common Higher Education Area:
Facilitating academic mobility across the Turkic World through credit recognition, curriculum alignment, and joint academic programs.
  • Student and Academic Staff Mobility:
Enhancing human capital interaction through exchange mechanisms inspired by programs such as Mevlana, but specifically tailored to the Turkic World.
  • Quality Assurance and Accreditation:
Promoting convergence of quality standards among member universities and strengthening mutual recognition.
  • Joint Research and Science Diplomacy:
Developing collaborative research networks in priority areas of the Turkic World, including energy, defense, culture, language, and digitalization.
  • Enhancing the Global Visibility of the Turkic World:
Increasing the global academic presence of universities from the Turkic World through international rankings, joint publications, and academic consortia.

We are pleased to announce our institution’s participation in this new and meaningful journey and look forward to contributing to the academic integration and global visibility of the Turkic World.
