General Information
Established in 2026, VLC LAB is an interdisciplinary research laboratory operating within Karadeniz Technical University under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Gökçe Hacıoğlu, conducting research on visible light communication (VLC), smart lighting systems, optical wireless communication technologies, and artificial intelligence-assisted communication applications.
Within the scope of the laboratory, theoretical and experimental studies are carried out on QLED-based communication systems, signal processing methods, IoT infrastructures, 6G and beyond communication technologies, energy-efficient communication systems, and secure optical communication applications.
Within VLC LAB, research and development activities are conducted in the following areas:
Vision
VLC LAB aims to contribute to the development of sustainable, energy-efficient, and secure next-generation communication technologies by conducting innovative research in the fields of visible light communication, smart lighting technologies, optical communication systems, and artificial intelligence-assisted communication infrastructures.
Scientific Working Principles
Scientific Reliability: Verifiable, transparent, and ethical research methods are adopted throughout all research processes.
Interdisciplinary Approach: The integrated evaluation of electrical, control, automation, and energy technologies is encouraged.
Balance Between Research and Application: Theoretical studies are aimed to be supported by real system implementations and experimental validations.
Open Collaboration Culture: Sustainable collaborations among academic researchers, students, and industry stakeholders are supported.
Technical Competence and Development: Researchers are encouraged to enhance their technical expertise, follow emerging technologies, and contribute to the international research culture.
Reproducible Research: The experimental and theoretical reproducibility of conducted studies is considered essential.
Graduate Thesis Studies
Within VLC LAB, master's and doctoral thesis studies based on simulation-based analyses and experimental applications are conducted in the areas of visible light communication, optical communication systems, artificial intelligence-assisted communication technologies, signal processing, and smart communication infrastructures.
