Karadeniz Technical University at APAIE 2026 International Education Expo

Karadeniz Technical University (KTU) held extensive meetings with numerous universities in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region as part of APAIE 2026, one of the leading higher education organizations in the Asia-Pacific region. The international expo hosted over 2,700 representatives from more than 60 countries and over 500 higher education institutions.
KTU was represented at the event, held from February 24–27, 2026, by the Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah Cuvalci and General Coordinator of External Relations Prof. Dr. Sercan Erol. During the meetings, academic and institutional cooperation opportunities were evaluated with representatives from various countries, primarily the People's Republic of China, South Korea, Japan, Malaysia, India, and Indonesia. Detailed information was provided regarding the university's academic programs, research centers, and university hospital, alongside consultations on student and faculty exchange programs.
Cooperation Opportunities Negotiated
During the contacts made throughout the expo, Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening institutional cooperation were signed. Agreements were also reached regarding the preparation of new MoUs and the initiation of online meeting processes. Furthermore, partnership opportunities under the Erasmus+ and Erasmus Mundus programs were negotiated and preliminary talks were held regarding bilateral cooperation agreements, double degree programs, and joint research activities.
Emphasis on Global Visibility
In his evaluation of the expo, KTU Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah Çuvalcı stated:
"As a university, we aim to establish strong and sustainable academic collaborations on a global scale. The meetings we held within the scope of APAIE 2026 are significant steps that will increase our university's scientific production capacity and provide new international opportunities for our students and academics. We will resolutely continue our efforts to become a more visible and effective university within global academic networks."
Visit to the Consulate General

Representing the university, Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah Cuvalci and General Coordinator of External Relations Prof. Dr. Sercan Erol visited the Consulate General of the Republic of Turkiye in Hong Kong concurrently with the expo.
During the meeting with Consul General Kerim Sercan Evcin, information was shared regarding the university's research capacity, priority scientific fields, and vision for internationalization. While evaluating potential joint research projects, academic mobility programs, and institutional cooperation opportunities with universities in Hong Kong, steps to strengthen academic ties with the Asia-Pacific region were discussed.
Consul General Kerim Sercan Evcin thanked Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah Cuvalci and Prof. Dr. Sercan Erol for their kind visit and extended his best wishes to the entire KTU family.
