The Faculty of Science, which is the locomotive of Karadeniz Technical University, the first university established outside the provinces of Istanbul and Ankara, in the field of basic sciences, was established in 1963 as the "Faculty of Basic Sciences". With the Higher Education Law No. 2547 adopted in 1981, the reorganization of all higher education institutions in Turkey came to the agenda, and since 1983, the Faculties of Basic Sciences have continued their education and training as Faculties of Science and Letters.  With the decision published in the Official Gazette dated April 28, 2010 and numbered 27565, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences within our university were separated as the Faculties of Science and Literature.

Since its establishment, the Faculty of Science (Science-Literature) has continued to improve the quality of education and training as well as contributing to the development of science and technology in Turkey. There are 6 departments within our faculty: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Statistics and Computer Science and Molecular Biology and Genetics. The Department of Biology and the Department of Chemistry have been accredited by FEDEK for 2 years between May 10, 2019 and September 30, 2021. An application was made to FEDEK regarding the sustainability of accreditation and the accreditation period of Biology and Chemistry undergraduate programs was extended until 30.09.2022 by the relevant institution. Our Mathematics Department was accredited by FEDEK for the first time between May 09, 2021 and September 30, 2023. Our other departments continue the necessary preparations for accreditation application. Our academic staff conveys up-to-date information about their fields to students with great devotion. In addition, both academic and administrative staff do their best to help students solve any problems they may encounter.

In addition to providing a solid-based education and training by applying contemporary education and training methods at international standards, the Faculty of Science aims to educate high-cultured Turkish youth who believe in national unity and solidarity, self-confident, respectful to their own values, who have internalized Atatürk's address to the youth, who aim to direct students to think critically and thus develop their ability to conduct independent research and self-renewal.
