This page summarizes the improvements made to enhance education and training processes, laboratory infrastructure, and the physical environment in the KTU Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering and the Of Faculty of Technology to which we are affiliated.
1. Improvements Related to Education & Training Processes
Goal, objective and indicator numbers refer to the KTU Strategic Plan (KTU Information Guide, April 2026, in Turkish); they differ from the numbering in the Department's own strategic plan.
Strengthening the Practical Infrastructure of the EHM4047 Satellite Communications Course

|---|---|
| Improvement Made | For practical work within the EHM4047 Satellite Communications course, a communication system using a dish antenna and the QO-100 satellite has been developed at the amateur radio station for satellite communications and put into use in classes. This enables students to experience satellite communications topics on real systems. |
| Related Goal | Goal 3 — To develop institutional capacity with a focus on quality. |
| Related Indicator | PG 3.2.2 — Number of improvements implemented as a result of feedback received. |
Renewal of the Experiment Infrastructure of the EHM4001 Microwave and Antennas Laboratory
Year: 2025 Data Entry Date: 08.10.2025 Feedback: Other
| Related Objective | Objective 3.2 — Quality will be deepened. |
|---|---|
| Improvement Made | The experiment infrastructure of the EHM4001 Microwave and Antennas Laboratory has been renewed using the Department's internal resources. The experiment sets have been updated, the laboratory layout has been improved, and the existing instruments have been calibrated. The experiment sheets have been revised from start to finish, and project assignments have been added to the experiments so that students can benefit more from microwave techniques and antenna applications. The entire process was completed without placing an additional burden on the Department budget. |

| Related Indicator | PG 3.2.2 — Number of improvements implemented as a result of feedback received. |
2. Physical Environment and Occupational Health & Safety Improvements
(Of Faculty of Technology Level)
Various physical improvements have been made on the Of Faculty of Technology campus, which includes our department, to provide a safe, accessible, and sustainable learning environment for students and staff.
Raising and Strengthening the Stair Railings
The height of the stair railings in the Faculty buildings has been raised from approximately 90 cm to 110 cm in line with safety standards, and the old chrome railings have been removed and replaced with sturdier, more durable railing systems. This improvement aims to reduce the risk of falls and to increase stair safety, especially during hours of heavy student traffic.
Installing Protective Barriers in Front of Electrical Transformers
Fixed barriers have been installed in front of the electrical transformers on campus to protect against possible collisions and impacts. This has improved the safety of both students and equipment and brought an important occupational health and safety risk source under control.
Non-Slip Surfaces at Building Entrances and Rainwater Drainage Improvements
To prevent slipping and water accumulation at the entrances of the Faculty buildings in rainy weather, non-slip strips have been applied, and slope and drainage improvements have been made for the controlled drainage of rainwater. This has improved both the safety and the comfort of the entrance areas.
Installing a Card Access System at Building Entrance Doors
A card access system has been installed at the main entrance doors of the Faculty, preventing unauthorized entry and allowing the entry and exit movements of students and staff to be managed in a more controlled and secure manner. This is an important improvement that strengthens institutional capacity in terms of both security and monitoring building usage data.
Cleaning of Sewage and Rainwater Lines
The sewage and rainwater lines around the campus have been cleaned periodically, reducing the risks of blockage and overflow. This has eliminated odor and water accumulation problems around the buildings and supported a healthy campus environment.
The improvements summarized above are regularly monitored within the quality assurance system of our department and Faculty and are updated in line with new needs and stakeholder feedback.
