Celebrating the Code of Life: DNA Day Inspires the Next Generation of Scientists

To celebrate the discovery of DNA—the fundamental code of life—and to promote genetic science to a broader audience, our department hosted a dynamic "DNA Day Event" on April 28, 2026. Commencing at 10:30 AM, the program was successfully executed as an engaging, educational, and highly impactful organization that bridged the gap between advanced academia and the general public.

The focal point of the event was our guest students visiting from regional high schools and Vocational Schools (MYO). Designed to introduce young minds to laboratory culture through hands-on experiential learning, the program empowered these visiting students to personally conduct fundamental molecular biology experiments. Under expert supervision, the students performed DNA isolation, meiosis observation, blood group typing, blood cell and bacteria examinations, and plant chlorophyll analysis. Enriched with interactive scientific seminars, intellectual games, and networking sessions, this immersive process transformed theoretical knowledge into a practical journey of scientific discovery.

A robust and collaborative team effort was the driving force behind this comprehensive science gathering. The intensive and dedicated support provided by our research assistants, who offered one-on-one mentorship to the young participants in the laboratory, ensured the organization was highly efficient and seamless. Complementing the visionary contributions of our research assistants, our department's active student clubs—KTÜGEN, NOVA, BioDiscovery, and BIONOVA Research Club—provided immense energy and logistical strength, significantly expanding the event's overall impact.

By opening our laboratory doors to the community and actively sharing scientific knowledge, this meaningful celebration aligns perfectly with our global and institutional objectives. Providing this applied science environment to students at a crucial age makes a highly valuable contribution to our institution's strategic metric regarding Activities organized/executed to spread knowledge to society.

We extend our deepest gratitude to all our academic staff, research assistants, student clubs, and enthusiastic guests who contributed to this event, sparking scientific curiosity in young minds and unlocking the doors to the world of genetics.
