About the Department

 

Faculty of Architecture, Department of Urban and Regional Planning was established in 2003. Undergraduate students who successfully complete the four-year education period are given the title of ‘City Planner”. Our department; sensitive to natural, historical and cultural processes; have the necessary and sufficient skills in national and international planning standards and practices; develop alternative solutions for the future of the city and the countryside; masters computer technology in professional field; aims to educate qualified individuals and city planners with problem solving skills and professional ethics. The Urban and Regional Planning Undergraduate Program includes four years of education: eight practical courses, including basic design, planning, urban design and urban conservation studios, theoretical courses and three internship studies. The program, which has a practice-oriented training process, aims to develop the upper and lower scale understanding of space through studies conducted at different scales. Department of Urban and Regional Planning provides Bachelor, Master and Doctorate level education.

 

Vision

 

The Department of Urban and Regional Planning has been active in education and research in the Department of Architecture since mid-1960 as a department. On 26.06.2003, the department has gained the status of a department. In 2005-2006 academic year, it has been started education with 27 students.  There are three main principles adopted by our department:

• Committed to scientific and ethical principles in the field of planning, considering the interests of the country and the benefit of society, open to technological developments,

• An understanding of governance is adopted in department management,

• Working discipline and responsibility, solidarity is not compromised.

In the long run, aims of our department to achieve the following objectives:

• A training and institutional structure that meets international co evaluation criteria,

• A training that prioritizes environmental values ​​and livability in the planning of settlement and settlement areas, can produce creative solutions to settlement problems, and integrate planning and design at all scales,

• A training that establishes research-education-application integrity,

• An education that gives the student the chance to develop his / her professional knowledge and skills,

• A department strong enough to represent the region in the national and international network of education and training

• Firstly, it is a department that establishes effective communication with the municipalities, regional and urban actors of the region and institutionalizes it within a research center.

 

Mission

 

The department has two main missions: “education” and “institutionalization” of planning discipline in the region:

A. Education Mission of Department

• To provide the students with sufficient understanding, knowledge and technical skills in understanding and planning settlements and settlement systems in education and training

• To enable students to develop understanding, knowledge and technical skills to create habitable environments

• To be in communication with national and international academic and practitioner circles, to ensure its continuity, to develop

B. Mission of Institutionalization of Planning Discipline in the Region

• To investigate, examine and develop suggestions for urban and rural problems, especially in the Eastern Black Sea Region

• To establish a shareable database on the region and cities of region in planning

• To monitor new developments in planning related issues of local administrations (technical personnel and selected staff), to create an environment for increasing their knowledge and skills, to contribute effectively to local governments and non-governmental organizations in urban and regional issues, can be sorted as.
