KTU Sürmene Abdullah Kanca Vocational School Internship Activity Procedures and Principles
1. Duration: Vocational School students are required to complete at least 40 working days of internship (Students in the Marine Machinery Management Program must complete 60 working days). Internship activities are conducted outside of academic terms and cannot be less than 10 working days, except for students in graduation status. In special cases, internship periods are determined by the Vocational School Administrative Board or the Internship Committee.
2. Timing: Summer internships begin as soon as the student's academic activities (Final Exams, Make-up Exams, or Graduation Exams) have concluded. Students who have completed all their courses are required to complete their internships within one year at the latest.
3. Required Documents: The following documents must be prepared to start the internship:
a) Internship Application Form
b) Family Health Assistance Inquiry Document
c) Photocopy of ID
d) Health Provision Document (to be obtained from the Social Security Institution (SGK) along with a student certificate)
4. Internship Location: Students determine the institution or organization where they will intern. They must have their chosen internship sites approved by the Vocational School Internship Committee via the Internship Application Form.
5. Internship Abroad: Students may also complete their internships abroad. The student must submit a foreign acceptance letter to the Internship and Education Application Board; if approved, the internship can be conducted during normal periods.
6. Attendance: Physical attendance is mandatory. The internship of any student who is absent for 3 consecutive working days or a total of 5 working days during the internship period without permission or a valid excuse will not be accepted. Furthermore, intern students must comply with the workplace's conditions, discipline, and safety rules.
7. Evaluation Forms: Every intern student is provided with a photo-stamped "Intern Student Evaluation Form" and an "Intern Student Attendance Sheet" by the Student Affairs Office. The student gives these to the workplace. The workplace supervisor fills out these forms and sends them to the Vocational School Directorate in a sealed and registered envelope.
8. Internship Notebook: Students record their daily work in an internship notebook using ink. Drawings and figures must follow technical drawing rules. Workdays and tasks must be listed individually on the first page. Notebooks can optionally be filled out digitally, printed, and bound. The notebook and attachments must be approved by a technical staff member at the workplace who has completed higher education.
9. Submission Deadlines: Students must submit their completed internship files with a petition to the Internship Committee by December 31 for the Fall term or May 31 for the Spring term. Failure to submit within these periods will result in the internship being deemed invalid. Files and workplace evaluations are reviewed by the Committee; an interview or practical test may be required, and unsatisfactory internships may be partially or fully canceled.
