Considering the archaeological importance of the Black Sea Region, the Department of Archeology was established within the Faculty of Letters of Karadeniz Technical University and the department became operational on 22/11/2012.

The first head of the department was Prof. Dr. Turgut Haci ZEYREK is the head of the Department of Archeology, and there are three separate programs: Prehistoric Archaeology, Protohistory and Near-Asian Archeology, and Classical Archeology. In addition to undergraduate education, archaeological research and excavations are also carried out within the Department of Archeology.

Karadeniz Technical University Archeology Department aims to provide its students with the opportunity to receive comprehensive education in the field of archeology by creating qualified teaching staff. Students will be able to choose from a rich course content on the comparative archeology of all Mediterranean and surrounding cultural regions, especially Anatolia, starting from the Prehistoric period until the end of the Roman period, and specialize in the field of their choice.

Students who have completed their undergraduate education in Prehistoric Archaeology, Protohistory and Near-Asian Archeology and Classical Archeology will be able to apply for Master's and Doctorate programs at the postgraduate level and continue their education towards specialization.

In addition to theoretical courses, which are compulsory attendance, students will be able to participate in excavations and research from various periods that are being carried out by faculty members of the Department, as well as studies carried out by researchers outside our university.

Students who will graduate from our Department's Classical Archaeology, Prehistory, Protohistory and Near-Asian Archeology Departments will be able to work at universities as lecturers if they meet the qualification conditions determined by the Universities in this field. T.R. They will be able to work in relevant units of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, state and private museums, as well as municipalities and various public institutions. Archeology graduates can enter T.R. if they know a foreign language well. After receiving the Tourist Guidance training provided by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, he can work as a licensed tourist guide.
