COP 31

Our Department of Forest Industrial Engineering to Showcase Four Projects at COP31
The Department of Forest Industrial Engineering at Karadeniz Technical University’s Faculty of Forestry will participate in the COP31 programme with four projects addressing sustainable materials, thermal energy storage and resilient timber structures.
The projects, led by Prof. Dr. Ali Temiz, Prof. Dr. Ayfer Dönmez Çavdar and Prof. Dr. Cenk Demirkır, reflect our department’s commitment to developing scientific solutions for a sustainable future.
Prof. Dr. Ali Temiz will be represented by two projects:
“Bio-Based Phase Change Materials in Lignocellulose Matrix for Energy Store in Buildings”
“Thermal Energy Storage in Buildings Using Innovative Bio-Based Materials”
Both projects focus on the use of bio-based materials for thermal energy storage in buildings.
Prof. Dr. Ayfer Dönmez Çavdar will present “Development and Production of Environmentally Friendly and Sustainable Fuel System Components for Vehicles Using Biochar”, highlighting the potential of biochar in sustainable material development.
Prof. Dr. Cenk Demirkır will present “Strengthen Without Demolition: Climate- and Earthquake-Resilient Cities through CLT and Digital Structural Health Monitoring”. The project explores strengthening approaches combining cross-laminated timber (CLT) and digital structural health monitoring to support resilient cities.
The projects led by Prof. Dr. Ali Temiz and Prof. Dr. Ayfer Dönmez Çavdar are scheduled for presentation on 9 November 2026, followed by Prof. Dr. Cenk Demirkır’s project on 10 November 2026. All four presentations will take place at Stand 4.
We are proud to see our department’s expertise in renewable resources, sustainable materials and timber engineering represented in the COP31 programme. We congratulate our faculty members and their project teams and wish them every success in their presentations and future research.
