dean's message

Dear Colleagues, Dear Students, Esteemed Parents,

Our Faculty, which has a nearly fifty-year history, is a large and established family with its strong and dynamic academic staff and successful students who have earned the right to study at the Faculty of Medicine by overcoming challenging exams. What makes the Faculty of Medicine a well-established unit is also dedicated employees who tirelessly serve day and night, graduates who represent us all around our country and the world, and retired or former staff.

Our foremost duty and responsibility is to train competent physicians who are committed to ethical principles with strong communication skills, capable of working in teams, have scientific and analytical thinking skills, and have the ability to learn throughout their lives in all practices required by the medical profession.

To this day, our faculty has graduated approximately 5000 physicians and 1500 residents.

Today, accreditation is the accepted quality indicator for medical education. Our pre-graduate education, which was awarded its first accreditation certificate in 2013, has been re-accredited by the Association for the Evaluation and Accreditation of Medical Education (TEPDAD) until 2025. I especially would like to express our gratitude to all our internal and external stakeholders who have provided us with all kinds of support in our efforts to become accredited.

Our Faculty is continually strengthening its educational infrastructure through the Farabi Hospital Application and Research Center, MEDSIM Good Medical Practice and Simulation Center, Active Learning Center, lecture halls, classrooms, laboratories, study rooms specially designed for our students, and electronic education management system.

Our students and academicians are also provided with different educational and research infrastructures and opportunities through national and international cooperation protocols.

In recent years, our main focus has been to increase our learner-centered, multidisciplinary educational activities and elective programs, and to make our students competent in basic medical practices. We also aim to enhance our students’ competencies in professional ethics, scientific research, communication, and behavioral vertical corridors, and to introduce our students to clinical areas in the early stages.

In addition to our students' academic development, it is also our priority to ensure their active and successful participation in social, cultural, and sporting fields. Nine student clubs established by our faculty students make significant contributions to their development in these areas and to the national and international recognition of our faculty.

As in pre-graduate education, enhancing quality and meeting accreditation criteria are also our priorities in post-graduate education. In this regard, important steps have been taken to increase the number of our fields of interest that have earned accreditation by the relevant competency committees. Our Post-Graduate Education Commission continues to work on effective use of the Post-Graduate Education System (UETS), assistant orientation training, and development programs.

Karadeniz Technical University Farabi Hospital is the largest and reference health institution in our region. It has once again proven its ability to provide organization and health services by managing the challenging pandemic process we experience in the best possible way. Our hospital continues to provide important services to our people with its developing and renewed equipment park and services.

One of the most important goals of our faculty is to contribute to science. With the recently launched Scientific Research Coordination Board, it is aimed to further increase the quality and quantity of our scientific activities.

Our faculty carries out all its work within the framework of transparency and social accountability. In this context, our quality and internal control standards, annual activity reports, self-evaluation reports, and all our activities are presented on our website.

Our continuous renewal and development efforts toward becoming a leading Faculty of Medicine in our country and in the world continue to increase.

I am grateful to all the managers who have contributed to our faculty so far, and to our esteemed Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah Çuvalcı, whose support we have felt since our first day in office.

Prof. Dr. Neşe KAKLIKKAYA
