Our University is hosting the 7^th International Enzyme & Bioprocess Days (EBDays 2026), bringing together leading scientists and industry representatives from around the world in the fields of biotechnology and bioprocessing.

The opening ceremony of the congress, held at the KTU Prof. Dr. Osman Turan Culture and Convention Center from 26 to 28 August 2026, took place today with a large turnout. The opening ceremony was attended by our Rector, Prof. Dr. Hamdullah Çuvalcı; Rector of Avrasya University, Prof. Dr. Mahir Kadakal; Dean of the KTU Faculty of Science and President of the Congress, Prof. Dr. Ali Osman Beldüz; as well as academics, industry representatives, students, and numerous distinguished guests.

Academia and Industry Meet in Trabzon

Bringing together academics, researchers, young scientists, and industry representatives working in the fields of enzyme technologies, biocatalysis, industrial biotechnology, and bioprocess engineering, the congress will address a wide range of topics over three days, including enzyme engineering, industrial and environmental applications of enzymes, biocatalysis, bioprocess development, sustainable biotechnological production, and next-generation approaches in biotechnology.

At the opening ceremony of the congress, welcoming speeches were delivered, respectively, by Congress Co-Chair Assist. Prof. Dr. Handan Üstükarcı, Congress President Prof. Dr. Ali Osman Beldüz, EBDays Coordinator Prof. Dr. Barış Binay, Rector of Avrasya University Prof. Dr. Mahir Kadakal, and our Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah Çuvalcı.

Rector Prof. Dr. Çuvalcı: “Enzymes Are Fundamental Building Blocks of the Technologies of the Future”

Addressing the participants at the opening ceremony, our Rector, Prof. Dr. Hamdullah Çuvalcı, stated:

“I find it particularly meaningful that EBDays, after having been successfully held at different universities, is being hosted by Karadeniz Technical University this year. Today, enzymes are not merely one of the fundamental areas of research in biochemistry; they are also among the fundamental building blocks of the technologies of the future across a wide range of fields, from drug development and food technologies to biofuels, green chemistry, and sustainable production.”

Emphasizing that Karadeniz Technical University is an institution committed to creating a research ecosystem that not only generates knowledge but also transforms it into technology, products, and societal benefits, our Rector continued:

“The gathering of scientists from different universities and countries provides a great opportunity to lay the foundations for new projects, joint publications, and important biotechnology ventures of the future. I particularly value the active participation of our young researchers and students in this congress, because our scientific future will be shaped by the young people working in our laboratories today.”

At the end of his speech, our Rector expressed his gratitude to Congress President Prof. Dr. Ali Osman Beldüz; Congress Co-Chairs Prof. Dr. Barış Binay, Assist. Prof. Dr. Fulya Ay, and Assist. Prof. Dr. Handan Üstükarcı; as well as the local organizing committees, sponsors, and participants for their contributions to the organization of the congress.

A Great Opportunity for Young Researchers

Featuring invited speakers from different countries, the congress provides a platform not only for oral and poster presentations but also for establishing new collaborations among researchers. EBDays 2026 offers a valuable opportunity, particularly for young researchers and graduate students, to share their work with the international scientific community and to support their career development.

Accepted papers presented at the congress are aimed to be published in internationally respected journals, primarily The Protein Journal, thereby contributing to the scientific community.

Academic Tribute in Honor of Prof. Dr. Ömer Ä°rfan KüfrevioÄŸlu

EBDays 2026 is being held in honour of Prof. Dr. Ömer Ä°rfan KüfrevioÄŸlu, a faculty member at Atatürk University, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field of enzyme research. In this respect, the event also represents a meaningful academic tribute.

Hosted by Karadeniz Technical University, EBDays 2026 is expected to make a significant contribution to the university’s internationalization vision, its scientific visibility in the field of biotechnology, and Trabzon’s recognition as a destination for international scientific events.
