Philippines Committee Visited KTU
A cooperation meeting on the Development of Academic and Exchange Programs was held between KTU and the Philippine Higher Education Institutions. In this meeting, the committee consisting of the members of the Commission on Higher Education in the Republic of the Philippines visited KTU for international cooperation.
Philippines University representatives paid a visit to KTU with the purpose of discussing prospective cooperation within the scope of the project titled “Development of Academic and Exchange Programs Among Universities in The Philippines and Turkey”.
Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah ÇUVALCI hosted the Commission on Higher Education in the Republic of the Philippines in his office. Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Akif CINEL, Prof. Dr. Halil İbrahim OKUMUÅž, Prof. Dr. Cemil RAKICI and Office of Exchange Programs Coordinator Prof. Dr. Ercan KÖSE also participated in the meeting held at the Rector's Office. Rector Prof. Dr. CUVALCI expressed his pleasure to host the Philippines university representatives at KTU and informed them about Karadeniz Technical University.
One of the University representatives of the Philippines, Chancellor of Mindanao State University-Naawan Campus Prof. Elnor C. Roa also introduced the project and partner universities in the meeting. Chancellor Roa pointed out that the Academic Development and Exchange Programs project was an output of the Philippines Commission on Higher Education (CHED) academic mission in 2019 and that the universities selected for the Project were recognized by the Philippines Higher Education Commission as the best educational institutions, especially in Fisheries and Marine Sciences. The members of the commission, who thanked KTU Rector for the interest shown to them, expressed their satisfaction with cooperating with KTU.
Following the meeting held at the Rectorate, a meeting was held in the Senate Hall to determine the cooperation to be implemented within the framework of the signed protocols. In the meeting, the details of the protocols signed in Ankara were discussed. Also, agenda topics including the subjects to be researched, joint programs to be offered, how to implement the issues such as joint diploma, student and faculty member mobility/exchange, researcher/scientist programs, international conferences, sharing library resources, laboratory training and other subjects were negotiated. At the meeting, representatives of seven universities that are partners in the project introduced their institutions, respectively. In addition, they expressed the opportunities they will provide as an institution and their expectations from KTU in the cooperation. Finally, it was decided to organize an international conference on "Sustainable Fishing and Responsible Aquaculture" within the scope of the project, details of which were also discussed at the meeting. The commissions discussed the studies that can be done between universities in academic and other fields in order to further develop educational cooperation between the two countries.
In the last part of the meeting, the committee visited the Kanuni Campus, Sürmene Faculty of Marine Sciences, and the units in the Çamburnu Campus to be informed about the activities carried out there.
