The 10th International Congress on Creation in the Light of Sciences, jointly organized by KTU and the Association for Creation in the Light of Sciences, brought together scholars and participants under the theme “The Universe: Measure, Balance, and Meaning.”
Held at the Prof. Dr. Osman Turan Culture and Congress Center, the congress welcomed Governor of Trabzon Tahir ŞAHİN; Mayor of Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Eqs. “We Value Academic Ethics and Intellectual Pluralism”
In his opening remarks, our Rector, Prof. Dr. Hamdullah ÇUVALCI, noted that throughout history, people have sought to understand the universe, life, and existence. He emphasized the importance of scientific inquiry and of fostering a culture that encourages people to think, question, and explore.
Referring to the Holy Qur’an’s call for observation, inquiry, and reflection, our Rector noted that scientific research is likewise grounded in observation, measurement, comparison, and questioning. He also highlighted the broader role of universities in society, saying, “A university should educate individuals who ask questions, value evidence, think critically, discuss different perspectives with academic respect, and engage with the major issues facing humanity. This is why we place great importance on scientific freedom, academic ethics, and intellectual pluralism.”
“Knowledge Must Be Used with Wisdom and Responsibility”
Turning to developments in artificial intelligence, genetic engineering, biotechnology, and space research, our Rector emphasized that scientific progress brings new responsibilities. He stressed that expanding human knowledge must go hand in hand with using that knowledge responsibly and within an ethical framework.
“Humanity needs not only more knowledge, but also the wisdom, ethics, and sense of responsibility required to use it,” he said.
Our Rector expressed his hope that the congress would encourage academic exchange and open new avenues for research by bringing together scholars from different disciplines. He also thanked everyone who contributed to the organization of the event.
