At the ICT Competition 2025–2026 European Final organized by the China-based technology company Huawei, the Computing Team from the Department of Software Engineering, Faculty of Engineering at our university, under the supervision of Assist. Prof. Dr. Merve Yıldırım and consisting of students Toprak Ekin Yüksel, Efekan Çakır, and Mete Gökhan, outperformed teams from France, Italy, Spain, Poland, Ukraine, Switzerland, Greece, and Germany. The team earned the top “Grand Prize” distinction and became the most successful team in Europe in the Computing category. The team will represent Türkiye at the Global Final, which will be held in Shenzhen, China, in June.

In the Teaching Category, where instructors compete (in the previous competition period), Assist. Prof. Dr. Merve Yıldırım had previously received the Grand Prize for her project in Network Technologies, becoming the first Turkish academic to win the “Most Valuable Instructor” award.

“This Is a Reflection of Our National Pride”

Our Rector, Prof. Dr. Hamdullah Çuvalcı, congratulated our faculty member and her team, stating: “I wholeheartedly congratulate our students and our faculty member. This great achievement is not only a source of pride for our university but also for our country, and it reflects our national pride and excitement. I sincerely believe that they will represent our flag and our university in the best possible way at the World Final.”
