International Congress on 3D Printing and Digital Industry Began at KTU

The “10th International Congress on 3D Printing (Additive Manufacturing) Technologies and Digital Industry (3D-PTC 2026),” hosted by Karadeniz Technical University (KTU), began with nearly 150 speakers from 10 countries.

The opening program of the congress, held both in person and online at the Prof. Dr. Osman Turan Culture and Congress Center, was attended by Acting Rector of KTU Prof. Dr. Ali TEMİZ; Vice Rector of Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU) Prof. Dr. Elviz ISMAYİLOV, who joined online; Dean of the KTU Faculty of Engineering Prof. Dr. Temel VAROL; representatives of public institutions and organizations; national and international researchers; academics; and invited guests.

The program began with speeches by Congress Chair and Director of the KTU Medical Device Design and Production Application and Research Center (METAM) Prof. Dr. Mustafa ASLAN, Congress Co-Chair Prof. Dr. Pınar DEMİRCİOÄžLU, and Honorary Congress Chair Prof. Dr. Kerim ÇETİNKAYA. The speakers shared their views on the future of 3D printing technologies, additive manufacturing, and the digital industry.

Turning Knowledge into Economic Value Was Emphasized

In his speech, Acting Rector Prof. Dr. Ali TEMİZ stated that transforming scientific knowledge into technology and economic value was one of the key responsibilities of universities. Noting that scientific knowledge produced at universities should not remain limited to laboratories and academic publications, Prof. Dr. TEMİZ said, “We consider it extremely important for knowledge to be transformed into technology, products, and economic value, to connect with industry, and ultimately to contribute to people’s lives.”

“We Aim to Develop Personalized, High-Value-Added Solutions”

Prof. Dr. TEMİZ stated that one important example of this approach was the Medical Device Design and Production Application and Research Center operating within KTU. He noted that the “Development and Commercialization of Personalized Implant Infrastructure Project,” with a budget of approximately TRY 47.3 million, was being carried out in cooperation with the Trabzon Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Eastern Black Sea Development Agency under the 2024 Attraction Centers Support Program. “Within the scope of the project, we aim to make use of modern 3D manufacturing technologies in healthcare to develop personalized, high-value-added, and human-centered solutions. We know that scientific knowledge becomes even more meaningful when it touches people’s lives and provides solutions to the needs of society,” Prof. Dr. TEMİZ said.

Prof. Dr. TEMİZ also emphasized the importance of the congress in bringing together scientists, industry representatives, and experts from different countries. He thanked the academics, public institutions and organizations, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and national and international researchers who contributed to the organization of the congress.

Guest of Honor Prof. Dr. MELHEM Delivered a Presentation

Following the opening speeches, the congress’s guest of honor, Prof. Dr. Ziad MELHEM from Lancaster University, who conducts research in superconductivity, cryogenics, quantum technologies, and advanced instrumentation, delivered a presentation titled “3D Printing and Digital Manufacturing of Superconducting Materials: Opportunities and Applications.” In his presentation, Prof. Dr. MELHEM discussed research on the development of superconducting materials using 3D printing and digital manufacturing methods, as well as cryogenic systems, advanced instrumentation, and the potential applications of these technologies across different industries.

Researchers from Different Disciplines Came Together

Organized in a hybrid format with both in-person and online participation, 3D-PTC 2026 brought together current scientific developments, research, and industrial applications in 3D printing technologies, additive manufacturing, and the digital industry. The congress brought together academics, researchers, and industry professionals from engineering, medicine, dentistry, and various other fields. Current challenges in additive manufacturing technologies and possible solutions were discussed from an interdisciplinary perspective. Participants from universities, industrial organizations, and public institutions in different countries also shared scientific studies on the theoretical and practical aspects of 3D printing and the digital industry.

3D-PTC 2026, held from September 3 to 5, 2026, concluded following scientific sessions and presentations.
