General Information

History

Vocational School of Health Services was founded under the Rectorate of Karadeniz Technical University on 25.11.1989, in accordance with the letter of the Council of Higher Education dated 13.12.1989 and numbered BÖ/0706002/3648-266143 and the law no. 2547 and article 7/b-2 of the amendment made to the law no. 2880.

Vocational School of Health Services first started education with Nursing and Medical Laboratory associate degree programs. Medical Documentation and Secretarial Program was opened in the 1996-1997 academic year. Due to the transition to undergraduate education in the Nursing Program in the 1997-1998 academic year, the Nursing Program was separated from the Vocational School. Radiology (Medical Imaging Techniques) Program was opened in the 2001-2002 academic year. In the 2005-2006 academic year, the Biomedical Device Technologies Program at Trabzon Vocational School was incorporated into the Vocational School of Health Services, and was separated again in the 2008-2009 academic year. With the opening of the First and Emergency Aid Program in the 2014-2015 academic year, the number of existing programs increased to 4.

Vocational School of Health Services continues its educational activities with a total of 492 active students in Medical Laboratory Techniques, Medical Documentation and Secretarial, Medical Imaging Techniques and First and Emergency Aid Programs under the Department of Medical Services and Techniques.

Vocational School of Health Services is located in the central Kanuni Campus of Karadeniz Technical University, in the same campus as the Faculty of Medicine. This allows students to easily benefit from the dormitory, dining hall, library, gym, medico-social and other social and cultural units and activities on campus. It is also in a very advantageous location as it is 5.6 km away from Trabzon city centre.

 

Our Education Staff

Educational activities are carried out with the support of 15 full-time faculty members within the Department of Medical Services and Techniques and faculty members within the KTU Faculty of Medicine.

 

Our Physical Infrastructure and Facilities

In the detached building where the Department of Medical Services and Techniques physically provides services, there is a computer laboratory with 20 PCs and internet access, and a total of 5 classrooms, 1 for 20 people and 4 for 50 people.

 

Our Education and Training Practices

Vocational Training in Business Administration - I, II and Summer Internship practices of the programs in the Vocational School of Health Services, the "Directive on the Principles and Procedures Regarding Domestic / International Summer Internship" of the KTÜ Vocational School of Health Services, especially the Karadeniz Technical University Farabi Hospital, and In accordance with the "Directive on the Principles and Procedures for Vocational Training in Business I - II Training Implementation", it is carried out in coordination with hospital managements and the Provincial Health Directorate in units determined specifically for the programs.

According to the relevant directive, the places where Summer Internship / Vocational Training in Business I ? II applications can be carried out are defined below.

a) It is required that at least one of the Biochemistry, Pathology, Microbiology, Hematology, Medical Biology and Genetics experts be present in the units where the Summer Internship / Vocational Training in Business I - II applications of the Medical Laboratory Techniques Program students will be carried out.

Relevant program students can practice in full-fledged City or State Hospitals with this feature, University Hospital, Training and Research Hospital, Private Hospital, Forensic Medicine Unit, Private Laboratory, Public Health Laboratory, Kızılay Blood Center and units deemed appropriate by the Unit Internship Commission within this scope.

b) It is required that there be at least one general practitioner/specialist physician or pharmacist in the units where the Summer Internship / Vocational Training in Business I - II applications of Medical Documentation and Secretarial Program students will be carried out.

Relevant program students can practice in full-fledged City or State Hospital, University Hospital, Training and Research Hospital, Private Hospital, Forensic Medicine Unit, Private Practice or Clinic, Private Imaging Center, Family Health or Community Health Center, Provincial or District Health Directorate, Kızılay Blood Center and units deemed appropriate by the Unit Internship Commission within this scope.

c) It is required that there be at least one Radiology specialist in the units where Summer Internship / Vocational Training in Business I - II practices of Medical Imaging Techniques Program students.

Relevant program students can practice in full-fledged City or State Hospital, University Hospital, Training and Research Hospital, Private Hospital, Private Medical Imaging Center and units deemed appropriate by the Unit Internship Commission within this scope.

d) It is required that there be at least one general practitioner or specialist doctor in the units where Summer Internship / Vocational Training in Business I - II practices of First and Emergency Aid Program students.

Relevant program students can practice in fully equipped City or State Hospital Emergency Service, University Hospital Emergency Service, Training and Research Hospital Emergency Service, Private Hospital Emergency Service, Provincial Health Directorate 112 Emergency Stations and units deemed appropriate by the Unit Internship Commission with this scope.

Our Educational Objectives

Through our training program prepared in accordance with international professional criteria in the field of health, we aim to graduate health technicians who are equipped with the high-level professional knowledge and skills needed by the health sector, in line with scientific, technological and contemporary values, who consider the public interest and contribute to the development and strengthening of our country's health services.

Our students

There are 70 student clubs established by student initiatives where Karadeniz Technical University students can spend their extracurricular time, gain organization, management, teamwork and communication skills, and develop their talents and personalities in a healthy way. Student clubs continue their activities under the KTU Health, Culture and Sports Department. Students maintain their contact with national and international professional organizations and organize events through clubs.

Our academics

In addition to the courses they give, our faculty members also carry out their scientific research through KTU BAP, TÜBİTAK and Industrial Cooperation projects.

Internship Program

In addition to the course credits that Vocational School students must complete in order to be eligible to receive an associate degree, a total of 30 working days within the framework of the KTU Vocational School of Health Services Directive on the Principles and Procedures of Domestic / International Summer Internships in order to increase their practical knowledge and skills that will contribute to their health education. It is mandatory to do Summer Internship for a period of time. It is essential that internships are carried out during the months that coincide with the semester or summer holidays. With the internship program, our students can find internship opportunities in many domestic and international health institutions.

Laboratory

There is one computer laboratory in our Vocational School with a capacity of 20 people.

 

Application

As a department at our university, which has the status of a Research University, our students have the opportunity to practice hospital practices to improve their professional skills and experience during the education process. Vocational Education in Business Administration I and II applications included in the department / program course curricula begin during the education and training periods determined in the academic calendar of the Higher Education Institution and end at the end of this period. Vocational Training practices in Business are carried out within the scope of "KTU Health Services Vocational School's Directive on the Principles and Procedures Regarding Vocational Training I - II Training Practice in Business".

Our Alumni and Employment

Our graduates of the Medical Laboratory Techniques program receive the title of "Health Technician" in their field. They can work in public, university and private hospitals, health centers, polyclinics, blood centers, private analysis laboratories, Hıfzısıhha Institutes, and institutions and organizations that carry out research and development studies in the field of medicine.

 

Our graduates of the Medical Imaging Techniques program receive the title of "Health Technician" in their field. They can work in public, university and private hospitals, in the Radiology units (conventional radiology, computerized tomography, magnetic resonance, angiography, mammography, fluoroscopy), nuclear medicine and radiotherapy departments of private medical centers and private imaging centers.

 

Our graduates of the Medical Documentation and Secretarial program receive the title of "Health Technician" in their field. In addition to medical units such as clinics, outpatient clinics, laboratories, operating rooms and emergency services of public health institutions, they can also work in administrative units such as health board, patient admission, patient files archive, personnel, revolving fund and purchasing. In the private sector, they can work in private hospitals, private health centers, private laboratories, private clinics, pharmacies, private radiology centers, pharmaceutical warehouses and software companies.

 

Our First and Emergency Aid program graduates receive the title of "Health Technician" in their field. They work in emergency health service units of other institutions and organizations, especially health institutions. They can work in emergency services, 112 emergency stations, 112 command and control centers, land, air and sea ambulances, private ambulance services and workplace emergency units of public and private health institutions and organizations.
