Our University carries out planned maintenance, renovation, modernisation, and renewable energy investments aimed at continuously improving the energy performance of its existing building stock.
On KTÜ’s official “Upgrading Buildings to Higher Energy Efficiency” webpage, it is explicitly stated that the University’s existing building stock is continuously upgraded in line with the principles of energy efficiency, safety, and sustainable resource use. In this context, measures implemented in previous years have included conversion to natural gas, modernisation of central heating plant burners, installation of LED lighting systems, use of energy-efficient electrical distribution panels, and renovation of ventilation and mechanical systems.

In 2025, this approach continued through a much larger-scale energy transition investment. Under the Public and Municipal Renewable Energy Project (KAYEP), financed by the World Bank and implemented by the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, a sub-project was launched to install solar photovoltaic systems on the roofs of KTÜ buildings. The project aims to meet all or part of the electricity consumption of public buildings from renewable energy sources and to increase the use of renewable energy in public buildings.

This initiative demonstrates that existing buildings are being upgraded not only through maintenance and renovation, but also through the transformation of their energy-generation infrastructure to achieve higher levels of energy performance. KTÜ’s Clean Energy Technology Policy further supports this approach by identifying the use of energy-efficient lighting, thermal insulation, automation systems, and energy-efficient equipment in buildings, together with the planning of renewable energy investments and the monitoring of energy consumption, as institutional implementation measures.
