Karadeniz Technical University systematically monitored electricity consumption across all campus facilities between 2020 and 2025. In 2025, annual electricity use decreased to approximately 2.99 million kWh, compared with approximately 3.93 million kWh in 2020. This represents a total reduction of about 24.1%.
The decrease reflects the combined effect of renewable energy integration, smart energy monitoring, optimization of HVAC operating schedules, improved building insulation, replacement of inefficient equipment, and institutional energy-saving policies. Monthly data for 2023, 2024, and 2025 also show lower electricity consumption across nearly all months, while the expected seasonal pattern associated with heating, cooling, and lighting demand remains visible. These results demonstrate that campus energy efficiency has improved without compromising the operational requirements of education, research, healthcare, and administrative activities.
