Karadeniz Technical University considers digital literacy a strategic institutional priority and implements a comprehensive Learning Management System (LMS)-enabled digital literacy program. The program is coordinated through the Distance Education Application and Research Center (UZEM), Continuing Education Center (SEM), Library and Documentation Department, Registrar’s Office, Information Technology Department, Civil Servants Academy, and relevant academic and administrative units. The digital literacy framework extends beyond basic LMS use and encompasses online learning, academic information literacy, research tools, information security, personal data protection awareness, artificial intelligence literacy, and the effective use of institutional digital systems.
For students, the program includes LMS user guides, new-student orientation programs, online learning support services, certificate-based training programs, library orientation activities, academic database training, secure off-campus access to digital resources, and the KTÜ Assistant digital consultation service. These activities help students adapt to digital learning environments, effectively utilize academic information resources, and independently access university services through digital platforms.
Academic staff are supported through training and guidance on Moodle, Microsoft Teams, online examinations, assignment management, digital course administration, and distance education practices. In addition, researchers receive support related to digital academic identity management and research tools, including ORCID, ResearcherID, Scopus ID, Mendeley, Turnitin, iThenticate, and similar platforms. These activities strengthen digital teaching competencies, research visibility, academic integrity, and responsible scholarly practices.
To enhance the digital competencies of administrative personnel, the university provides regular in-service training through the Civil Servants Academy on topics such as the Electronic Document Management System (EBYS), information security awareness, digital archive management, personal data protection, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence awareness. These training activities contribute to the secure, efficient, and effective use of institutional digital systems and services.
Responsible technology use and digital security constitute important components of the program. Karadeniz Technical University integrates information security, cybersecurity awareness, personal data protection, and ethical digital behavior into its digital literacy framework to ensure that users interact with digital environments safely and responsibly. Furthermore, awareness programs on artificial intelligence and emerging technologies help participants understand the opportunities, risks, and ethical implications of digital transformation in education, research, and professional life.
The effectiveness of the digital literacy program is regularly monitored through satisfaction surveys, participant feedback forms, evaluation meetings, and quality assurance processes. Feedback collected from students, academic staff, and administrative personnel is used to improve training content, user guides, digital learning environments, and professional development programs. Through annual evaluation and planning activities conducted by UZEM, SEM, and other relevant units, the program is continuously reviewed and enhanced in line with institutional needs and stakeholder expectations.
As a result, Karadeniz Technical University implements an integrated LMS-enabled digital literacy program that serves students, academic staff, and administrative personnel. Through a continuous cycle of planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and improvement, the program contributes significantly to strengthening institutional capacity in digital learning, information literacy, research competencies, digital security, and adaptation to emerging technologies.
