EUCAS 2025 "Short Courses" Event

Event: The "Short Courses" program organized within EUCAS 2025, Europe's largest conference on superconductor applications

Our Head of Department, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Canan Aksoy, successfully represented our country as the only participant from Türkiye at EUCAS 2025, which had more than 1,500 participants, and organized the "Short Courses" event, attended by 150 people, within the conference. At the event, current developments in the field of superconductivity were shared with international participants under the headings of Electronics, Materials Science, and Large-Scale Applications, thereby conveying our department's body of knowledge to a wide audience.

Our faculty member also served as a moderator and gave scientific presentations at the conference; as a result of her academic and organizational contributions, she was elected among the conference coordinators and appointed as a technical editor of the journal IEEE Transactions on Applied Superconductivity.

KTU TV — "Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow of Communication Systems" Program

In the program titled "Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow of Communication Systems," the historical development of communication technologies, current applications, and expectations for the future were discussed with the participation of our academics. We Talked About Amateur Radio and Our İstasyOF Project on TRT Trabzon Radio

Faculty members of our department shared information about amateur radio culture and the İstasyOF project on a program broadcast on TRT Trabzon Radio, describing the project, which aims to increase young people's interest in radio communication and space–satellite applications. In the program, the capabilities of our amateur radio station, the work students carry out there, and national/international contacts were shared with listeners.

Our Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering was a guest on a program on TRT Trabzon Radio; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ömer Kasar and Res. Asst. Mehmet Emin Kobya took part in the broadcast. The program gave comprehensive information about the Of Faculty of Technology and our department; our approach to applied engineering education, our research areas, and the opportunities we offer our students were shared with a wide audience of listeners.

ADHD Information and Discussion Meeting with Department Students

Within the scope of the doctoral thesis work carried out by Res. Asst. Ahmet Çil and the TÜBİTAK project supported from the same thesis, a discussion meeting was held with students about the diagnosis of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Students who wished to contribute to this engineering-based project attended the meeting.

In the discussion, evaluations were made of the difficulties students face in academic and daily life, attention and motivation processes, and study habits; information was also presented on the scope and objectives of the ongoing scientific study.

The meeting aimed to scientifically examine the experiences of students diagnosed with ADHD, to collect data that will shed light on engineering-based solutions, and to contribute to students' awareness and support processes.

KTU Electronics and Communication Engineering Ankara Technical Trip

Students from our department took part in a three-stop technical trip in Ankara. During the visits, comprehensive information was received about the work carried out at the institutions, their R&D activities, and possible cooperation opportunities.

ASELSAN Gölbaşı REHİS: Students were briefed on ASELSAN's organizational structure, defense systems, and electronic warfare technologies, and examined domestic engineering capabilities in the defense industry on site.

DSİ General Directorate (State Hydraulic Works): Hosted by DSİ Head of Support Services Department Erdoğan Ay and DSİ Director General Mehmet Akif Balta, presentations were given on infrastructure projects and water management technologies; joint projects and R&D opportunities were discussed with our KTU alumni managers within the framework of university–public sector cooperation.

BTK: At the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK), students were briefed on digital transformation strategies, next-generation communication technologies, and 5G infrastructure work; ideas were exchanged on joint R&D projects, applied training, and internship opportunities between KTU and BTK.

TÜBİTAK 2209-A/B, KTU-BAP09, and Patent Processes Information Meeting

At this information meeting organized for our undergraduate 2nd-, 3rd-, and 4th-year students, the scope, application requirements, and evaluation criteria of the TÜBİTAK 2209-A University Students Research Projects and 2209-B Industry-Oriented Research Projects programs were explained with examples. In addition, how to benefit from internal university project support through the KTU-BAP09 program was described.

In the second part of the meeting, patent application processes, intellectual property rights, and the support provided by the KTU Technology Transfer Office were covered so that students can protect their inventions, and students' questions were answered.

At the end of the event, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kasar encouraged students to become acquainted with research culture early on and advised them to develop their projects in cooperation with faculty members.

2025 Orientation Meeting: Introducing the Department to First-Year Students

At the orientation meeting organized to support first-year students' adaptation to the department, comprehensive information was provided on the structure of the department, academic processes, the curriculum, laboratory facilities, and student support mechanisms. Frequently asked questions were answered, with the aim of helping students adapt to university life more smoothly.

Opening of the İstasyOF Amateur Radio Station and Cooperation Protocol with TRAC

İstasyOF, the amateur radio station set up at our Faculty, was opened with the participation of our Rector; its purpose, uses and contributions to the university were presented. The next day, a protocol covering cooperation, transfer of experience and joint activities was signed with the Trabzon Branch of the Turkish Radio Amateurs Society (TRAC), which has supported the station since its inception.

Blood Donation Campaigns

Blood donation campaigns have been held at regular intervals in our Faculty in cooperation with the Turkish Red Crescent (Kızılay); our students and staff gained awareness about blood and stem cell donation and participated in the campaigns in large numbers.

"Be Hope with Caps" Blue Cap Campaign

Our Faculty supported the social responsibility project that aims to provide wheelchairs by collecting plastic caps; students collected blue caps and contributed to improving the quality of life of people with disabilities.

Fruit Sapling Planting Event

Approximately 60 fruit saplings were planted at our Faculty to raise social awareness and enrich the green areas on campus. The event ended with a fish-and-bread treat at the planting site and created a strong sense of belonging among students and staff.

Traditional Anchovy Festival

At the Anchovy Festival, which has become a tradition at the Of Faculty of Technology with the support of the Of Municipality, our students, academic and administrative staff, and local residents come together, creating an environment of social interaction and cultural sharing. The event is an important social contribution activity that strengthens faculty–local community interaction.

Book Donation (Social Responsibility Project)

Books collected by our Department's academic and administrative staff were delivered by our faculty members to Esiroğlu Şehit Er Mehmet Akyüz Middle School in Maçka, Trabzon.
