Our faculty has implemented an important environmental protection effort to combat ghost nets threatening the marine environment within the scope of the EU-supported BlackNETs Project. This activity along the Black Sea coasts was successfully carried out using our faculty’s research vessel KTÜ R/V Yakamoz.

As part of the study, a remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV) developed by Degz company was deployed from the KTÜ R/V Yakamoz; thus, seabed mapping was conducted and ghost nets were identified. The detected nets were removed from the marine environment using appropriate methods.
