peer review process

  • Journal of Black Sea Studies (KAREN) was published annually in 2015 and 2016; starting from the year 2017, it publishes scientific studies twice a year, one in June and one in December.

  • In order for any article to be published in KAREN, it should not have been previously published or accepted to be published elsewhere. Papers presented at a conference or symposium may be accepted for publication if clearly indicated so beforehand.

  • The papers can be submitted to KAREN through DergiPark by becoming a member. The authors are to provide their full names, academic titles, institutions, correspondence and e-mail addresses, phone and fax numbers during submission. Peer-reviewing process can also be followed carrying out membership login from the same page.

  • Papers submitted to KAREN are first examined by the Editorial Board and then are subject to peer review and sent to at least two independent referees. Peer reviewers are asked to give their opinion on a number of issues pertinent to the scientific and formal aspects of a paper, and to judge the papers on grounds of originality and urgency. The names are kept anonymous and the final decision for publication is sent to the authors within three-month time.

  • In case one referee report is negative while the other is favourable, the article may be forwarded to a third referee for further evaluation or alternatively the board, based on the contents of the reports may feel confident to make a final decision. The authors are to consider the criticism, suggestions and corrections offered by the referees and by the editorial board. If they disagree, they are entitled to counter present their views and justifications. Final decision rests with the editorial board. Articles which are not accepted for publication are not returned to their authors.

  • When a manuscript is corrected according to the suggestions of the referees and the editorial board, it has to be re-submitted to KAREN through DergiPark system within 15 days. The corrected manuscript can be re-examined by the referees if necessary.

  • The royalty rights of the accepted articles are considered transferred to the Institute of Black Sea Studies. Any views expressed in this publication are the views of the authors and are not the views of KAREN.

  • Quotations from articles including pictures are permitted with full reference to the article.

  • KAREN do not charge authors an APC.
