Our department commemorated the second anniversary of the February 6, 2023, KahramanmaraÅŸ-centered earthquakes—widely regarded as the "disaster of the century"—with the participation of the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Temel VAROL. Two years have passed since this devastating earthquake, yet time has neither eased our pain nor diminished our sorrow for those we lost. We continue to feel the grief and anguish as deeply as we did on the first day.

On this occasion, we first and foremost remember our fellow citizens who lost their lives in the earthquake with deep respect and extend our heartfelt condolences to their families and loved ones. We also express our profound gratitude to the search and rescue teams, scientists, and all volunteers who worked selflessly in the aftermath of the disaster.

Following the commemoration event organized by our university's Civil Defense Unit at 04:17—the time of the first earthquake—we feel a great sense of responsibility in hosting this memorial program as the Department of Geophysical Engineering at 13:24, the time when the second earthquake struck.
