Purpose of Establishment and General Information

A series of matlab programs are designed to enable students to learn several fundamental concepts on medical imaging techniques.

Experiments and Forms

The instructor will provide explanations regarding the experiments during the semester.

Simulation Experiments:

1. X-ray imaging: The essence of X-ray projection profile is explained by a matlab software. The program includes the generation of simple images and plots the projection profile from any angle according to the parallel X-ray geometry of any image. The program also includes the generation of simple images. It  also genarates the sinogram of the cross-section image

2. Cone-Beam Computed Tomograghy: Cone beam computed tomography  is a medical imaging technique consisting of X-ray computed tomography where the X-rays are divergent, forming a cone. The essence of  the Cone-Beam Computed Tomograghy is explained by a matlab software. The program genarates a user defined cross-section image and plots its Cone-Beam projection profile for given imaging parameter set.

3. Algebraic Reconstruction Algorithm (ART ): The algebraic reconstruction technique (ART) is an iterative reconstruction technique used in computed tomography. The algorithm generates the cross-section image from a series of angular projections (a sinogram) of a body section. The essence of the ART algorithm is explained by a matlab software. The  program reconstructs the cross-section image from the sinogram of  a user defined cross-section image.

4. A-mode Ultrasound: A single transducer scans a line through the body with the echoes plotted on screen as a function of depth. The essence of  the A-mode Ultrasound imaging technique is explained by a matlab software. It genarates  a user defined image and plots the A-mode function of a selected point in the image.

5. Doppler Ultrasound: A Doppler ultrasound measures the amount of blood flow through arteries and veins.  The essence of  the Doppler Ultrasound  technique is explained by a matlab software. It genarates a flow model and plots the Doppler signal.
