history

Karadeniz Technical University was established with the law numbered 6594 and dated May 20, 1955, with the proposal of Mustafa Reşit Tarakçıoğlu, one of the Trabzon deputies, and his friends, based on the historical, cultural, and economic importance of Trabzon. Education at the university started in a primary school building in Maşatlık on December 2, 1963, approximately 8 years after its establishment. The first students studied in the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture. After the first two years of Basic Science education and completing their education in the 1967-1968 academic year, they chose one of the departments of civil engineering and architecture. These students became the first graduates of Karadeniz Technical University with a diploma of Masters of Science in Engineering. Civil Engineering Department started 4-year education in 1973-1974 and graduated 549 engineers within the first 10 years. Today, the number of our graduates is around tens of thousands. In the early years of Karadeniz Technical University, distinguished faculty members from Istanbul Technical University and Istanbul University taught students. In addition, a large number of academic staff were trained by this staff. This has had a great impact on the successful history of our university and the Civil Engineering Department. In addition, the Department of Civil Engineering is among the distinguished departments in our country today, with staff who have completed their doctoral studies abroad.
