1st International Non-wood Forest Products Symposium
First Announcement and Call for Papers
Objective: The symposium will offer the opportunity to discuss the recent developments in forest harvesting, trade and marketing practices for non-wood forest products, and their potential importance for socio-economic development.
It will, in particular, discuss issues on sustainable forest operations and improved utilisation of non-wood forest products, as well as the reduction of the environmental impacts and wastes in the forests and processing facilities.
Furthermore, the seminar will deal with the following issues: financial, organizational and administrative support measures by governments, the private sector, non-governmental organizations to promote the sustainable utilisation of non-wood forest products and their importance for development, employment and income generation particularly for local populations.
Place and Date: The symposium will be held from 1-4 November 2006 at the Karadeniz Technical University Congress Center, Trabzon, Turkey.
Organization: The symposium is organized under the auspices of the KTU Faculty of Forestry, The Scientfic & Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK), and Regional Directorate of Forestry.
Participants: The symposium is aimed at all those working in the forestry, trade and marketing sectors and those dealing with non-wood forest products.
Suggested Topics (not exhaustive):
- sustainable forest operations and improved utilisation of non-wood forest products
- operational management plans,
- organization of operations,
- community involvement, development, employment and income,
- economic valuation of non-wood forest products supporting sustainable forest management practices,
- training and extension measures,
- fiscal incentives to support activities related to non-wood forest products,
- conservation, harvest, processing and marketing of non-wood forest products.
