General Introduction

Department of General Medicine is located on the main campus of Karadeniz Technical University. The department offers graduate and postgraduate(specialized in medicine and other postgraduate studies affiliated to the Institute of Medical Sciences) studies.

Those who are attending to the programmes enroll according to the ÖSS (University Entrance Examination) results obtained. Prior to the departmental courses, the students have to take an English language proficiency test. While those who succeed in the proficiency test directly begin the departmental courses, those failed in the proficiency test are to attend a 1-year prep programme.

Each year approximately 120 students enroll in the programme. The number of students in graduate programme is almost 980. Nearly 50 students are admitted for medical post-graduate education after they take the required score from TUS (A Test for Specialization in Medicine) Now there are 36 students enrolled in the specialization programme. Those students, at the same time, are employed as research assistants.

Apart from the elective trainings in the sixth year, all the courses and trainings are compulsory and also they are the prerequisites of a next course or training.

The job opportunities for the graduates are immense. They are recruited as practitioners or they can get a job in private institutions. Moreover, they can specialize in any field after obtaining the required scores from TUS. Those who complete post-graduate programme can establish their own consulting-rooms or still they can get a job in various health clinics or institutions. Besides, they can continue their academic career in faculties.
