| |
Summer school aims at continuing educational
opportunities in summer time. Besides the students who can take the courses
they failed, the successful students can also register the courses they are to
take in the following semesters so that they can graduate earlier. Moreover,
the students enrolled to Double Major, Double Minor and postgraduate programmes
can take the advantage of summer school programme. Summer school involves a-7-week
programme offering the courses scheduled in the fall/spring semester.
|
| School of Basic English |
| |
KTU, upon the realization of the importance of knowing a language in a globalizing world, has established a modern school of foreign languages to let them cope with the rapid changes in an increasingly competitive world. In some of the courses of a substantial number of the departments, English is used as a medium of instruction, if not all. An intensive year of English Language courses is compulsory in such departments. The departments of Computer Engineering, Electronics and Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Forest Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geodesy and Photogrammetry Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, English Language and Literature, Deck, International Affairs, Public Administration and Faculty of Medicine have been within the scope of the programme. Tourism and Hotel Management will also be included in the programme in due course.
Those who do not meet the
requirements of ELST (English Language Screening Test) have to attend a
one-year demanding programme in the U-shaped classes of 20-25, according to
their levels. The programme offers an interactive education, making use of
advanced technologies. In addition to speaking, listening, reading and writing,
translation and professional English courses are also focused. In the courses,
designed according to student-centered approach, projects and presentations are
the very opportunities to contain all the premises. |
|
Counseling |
| |
For dealing with all kinds of
problems of the students, the university provides a unit of information
support. Students are counseled by the head of their departments appointed to
support them seek for possible solutions. Besides, students are also supported
with psychological counseling that may be helpful in the treatment of health
problems. |
|
Orientation Programme |
| |
In order to let
students acclimatize with the university and the environment an orientation
programme is carried out. What is sought in the programme is to familiarize
students with the new atmosphere and facilitate adaptation. |
|
Double Major |
| |
Double major
refers to the students’ chance of receiving a second BA/BS diploma after
majoring in another. In order to benefit from this, fully succeeding in the
courses of the main major as well as having an academic average of 3.2 out of 4
is required. The students admitted to this programme have the opportunity to
receive a second diploma on condition that they take a total of 40 credits and
attend the courses regularly. Those who can apply to the programme can do so
between the third and fifth semester of their education. |
| Double Minor |
| |
Double minor
refers to another programme for our students who want to receive a double minor
diploma. The academic average required is 2.7 out of 4, and the compulsory
credit to complete is 20 credits. |
|
Interdepartmental Transfer |
| |
Students who have been admitted to one of the
departments of our university through ÖSS (university entrance exam) and
attained an academic average of 2.7 out of 4 at the end of the first year, have
the chance to transfer to a department of the same faculty that has the same score
type. Finally, depending on the number of students determined by the
department, the academic averages are taken into consideration and students are
selected accordingly. |
| Education Abroad |
| |
KTU takes one of
the initial seats in sending students abroad through the Socrates-Erasmus programme,
which is one of EU Education programmes. So far, nearly 50 students have been
sent to partner universities for a period ranging from to 12 months. Students are required to complete their
4 semesters successfully and have a good command of a language of one of EU
countries, sufficient enough to listen and comprehend a lecture. |
| Career Planning |
| |
Career planning
activities are designed for students to help them determine their aims
regarding their jobs, familiarize with the market situation in their fields,
and take a firmer step in advance. In this respect, in close collaboration with
the private sector and government institutions, each year career days are
arranged, and seminars are held to inform students about issues such as CV
writing or suitable job opportunities. With this goal in mind, KTU, Trabzon
Chamber of Trade and Commerce, and KOSGEB are in close cooperation. For
coordination, KOSGEB and Trabzon Chamber of Trade and Commerce have a contact office
in the main campus. Moreover, career planning sessions as well as introductory
activities are arranged for high school students. |

International Affairs |
| |
In order to
enable the students to meet the requirements of a fast-changing, improving and
globalizing world, and encourage them to be the outstanding and distinguished
figures of the competitive world in question, KTU has set new goals in terms of
both technological and educational domains. At a period in which Turkey is carrying out
her negotiation process with the EU, it is the ultimate goal of KTU to comply
and compromise with the education systems of EU members. Through the office of
International Affairs, bilateral relations between a great number of European,
American and Japanese universities and institutes are established, and cultural
and scientific collaboration are developed on the grounds ranging from
international exchange programmes for students and academicians to joint
projects.
To enable the
students and academic staff to benefit from the European Union’s funds, many
studies are implemented. Socrates and Erasmus programmes, enabling students to
continue part of their education in one of EU member countries, are being
successfully carried out. In addition to this, organizations such as Leonardo
Da Vinci and Youth proved to be successful.
On the other
hand, recently involved programmes such as 6th Frame, Cost and Eureka, which encourage
academicians’ ongoing developments, participation in research activities, and
enable costly research projects, will be the new challenges of the office in
due course. |
|
