The Board is chaired by the Head of Department and consists of members elected from within and outside the Department on the recommendation of the Academic Board. One of the Deputy Heads acts as Secretary to the Board. In addition to the faculty members, there is a research assistant or postgraduate student representative from within the department. From outside the Department, members representing the public, private sector, professional bodies, the academic community and alumni are elected to the Board. At least half of the Board is renewed every three years. There is no requirement for non-departmental members to be graduates of the department.

The role of the Board is to support the Department in accordance with the vision and mission of the Department. It is to make forecasts in setting the educational objectives of the programme, to assist the Department in achieving the objectives set, and to contribute to the revision of these objectives as necessary. It shall also endeavour to raise the profile of the Department in the public and private sectors. Its decisions are advisory and are discussed in the Academic Board of the Department.

The Board meets twice a year on Wednesday afternoons in the fourth week of the academic year. Meetings can also be attended online.

One copy of the signed minutes of the meeting and the activity plan is kept in the Advisory Board archive, which is created in a suitable media environment provided by the Department, while the other copy is sent to the Head of Department for discussion at the Academic Board.
