      Rock Slope Stability Analyses by Probability Method and Excavabilty in

Tasönü Limestone Quarry (Trabzon)

      In this study, stability of the slopes formed after these landslides in Tasönü

Limestone quarry was investigated by probabilistic methods. The quarry was opened Late

      Campanien-Paleocene aged limestone in various fasies of Kireçhane Formation.

Production of raw materials was decreased and legal problems occurred because of plane

      failures in 2005 and 2006 years. This quarry was providing the most of the demand for the

raw material Askale Trabzon Cement Factory before landslides.

      The friction angle and cohesion of the failure plane in clayey layer formed from

weathering of the red colored carbonated tuff are found to be 9-160 and 10-60 kPa

      respectively as the result of back analyses.

It tried to determine the acceptable probability of failure (%Pf) and reliability index

      (b) by analyzing stable and unstable slope based on Monte Carlo Simulation Technique.

According to the analysis, if Pf%10 b1.3 then the slope investigated is stable.

      The stability analyses of the slopes after landslides were performed by Monte Carlo

method. Then It was concluded that these are unstable. Even if there is not the effect of

      water, the failure can be formed in these slopes

Monitoring system must be established in the tensile crack on the slopes after

      landslides urgently. Also, 1/1000 scaled mapping was prepared for rocks formed from

various fasies. And each units considering engineering behavior was separated as

      homogeneous area. Discontinuity properties of geotechnical units were measured. And it

was determined that the best evaluation of the excavability can be with excavability index.

      In addition to, the slopes to north was done design. For the suggested design profiles,

overall slope angle is range between 30-350 and heigth and width of bench are respectively

      range between 6-9 meters, 8-10 meters
