Concept of plate resting on elastic foundation is very common in structural systems. Therefore, studies in this topic are quite much. It is important that the plates resting on elastic foundation that are used in the structure with high cost should be designed safely. Therefore, values of stress, deformation, bending moments and displacements occurring in the plates under dead and external load are should be obtained by using static and dynamic analysis with a sufficient sensitivity.The purpose of this study is to analysis thick plates resting on elastic foundation subjected to earthquake by using Mindlin Plate Theory. For this purpose, different parameters such as aspect ratio, thickness/span ratio and subsoil depth are considered. In the analysis ANSYS V11 program is used.
This study consists of fur chapters. In the first chapter, subsoil models and Mindlin Plate Theory are summarized. Than a brief literature review on plates is presented, and then the purpose and scope of this study are mentioned. In the second chapter, the finite element mesh size and the time increment to be used in the analysis are determined. In the third chapter, the results obtained in the study are presented in tabular and graphical form and then evaluated. In the fourth chapter, the conclusions drawn from the results are presented and recommendations are made. This chapter is followed by a list of references.It is concluded that the effects of soil depth on maximum displacement of thick plates resting on elastic foundation subjected to earthquakes are more effective than those of the other parameters.
