Summary:

      Turkey is situated on one of the area of active earthquake fault in the world. Because of this tectonic situation, nearly all of Turkey is under the risk of earthquake. After the Marmara and Düzce earthquakes, which caused lots of people’s death, the attention paid to the earthquake resistant structural design is increased. After these earthquakes, the earthquake code is modified and the new earthquake code is published in March 7, 2007.

      The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the faults made in project and construction stages of buildings constructed in Trabzon city center after the Earthquake Code-2007, and to observe how much attention is given to the project and construction stages of buildings from the earthquake code and TS 500 point of view. Fort his purpose, questionnaires are prepared and used, and sufficient number of building is investigated.

      This thesis consists of three main chapters and an appendix. In the first chapter, general information about earthquakes, earthquake resistant structural design, the structural elements and the structural forms used in structures, faults made during project stage and the purpose and the scope of the thesis are given. In the second chapter the sufficient number of buildings constructed in the city of Trabzon after March 7, 2007 is investigated in terms of the minimum and maximum conditions of the Turkish Earthquake Code-2007, and TS 500. The third chapter contains the conclusions drawn from the study and some suggestions. This chapter is followed by the list of references and the appendix.

      It is concluded that the current specifications and standards are not obeyed in especially construction stage.
