      Changing the conditions of transportation, the traffic loads and the environmental effects, it will affect the performance of highways and will make economic the costs of road-construction, suitable for today’s traffic and environment conditions that the new materials are researched and the new design methods are improved.

In this study the use of asphaltite, a mine originated from petroleum, was investigated as mineral filler in hot-mix asphalt concrete. The asphalt mixture in which asphaltite and limestone fillers that have the same aggregate gradation prepared and optimum bitumen contents were determined by the Marshall method. Mechanical characteristics of the asphaltite and control mixtures were evaluated with Marshall stability, indirect tensile and water damage tests. However, the properties of density-void of the mixtures comparatively were investigated.

      By the findings of this study, it is clear that, using a little asphaltite in the asphalt concrete mixture may give better results, instead of using completely as mineral filler, especially from the point of view of the values of emptiness rate and stability.
