Our Country is subject to the natural events due to its geological topographical nature and climatic characteristics. East part of the Black Sea Region, which is most precipitation region in our Country, is a risky region by the sliding point of view because of having very steep slopes. Defining the sliding areas is important for reducing or eliminating the negativity in order to define the settelment areas.
In this study, after originating the Kürtün Dam Lake, slide occurred in Özkürtün Town has been reviewed.
After impounding, when the dam lake reached to elevation 630 masl, there had been cracks between the highway passing through the town and the lake and afterwards there had been slides. In this study, works performed at the site are reviewed and studies are performed at the site and samples were taken for some laboratory tests. Sections are defined by digitizing the maps on computer and most critical section is chosen. After defining the geological section, the sections are analysed.
In this study, measures which can be taken in the critical section are investigated and solutions are proposed in order to give an answer to the question of before defining the settlement area, could such a big danger be prevented by studies at the dam planning stage?
