It is essential to select the structural form of a structure in the earthquake resistant design. Therefore, the selection of the structural form of a structure must be made very carefully.The purpose of this study is to investigate the lineer behaviour of frame structures stiffened with diagonally and eccentrically located bracing members subjected to earthquake and to compare the results of stiffened frames with each other and with those of moment-resisting frames. These comparation are made seperately for displacement, bending moment, axial force and shear force for all frames with different stories and bay numbers. For this purpose, in the first chapter, general information about factors that should be considered in the selection of structural forms of earthquake resistant design, structural forms, members of structural forms and studies made on earthquake resistant design are presented. In the second chapter, information about frame structure models used are given. In the third chapter, the results obtained from the study are presented in tabular forms and graphs and then discussed. In the fourth chapter, the conclusions drawn from the results are given and some recommendations for future studies are made. This chapter is followed by a list of references.
It is concluded that earthquake behavior of frame structures stiffened with diagonally and eccentrically located bracing members is better than that of moment resisting frames from the characteristics considered point of view.
