Summary:

      In this study, analysis of flood damages and vulnerability for possible floods to be expected on Sanayi District, located on the downstream of Değirmendere Basin in the Eastern Black Sea Region, are presented. Taking into consideration the floods with 100 and 500 years return periods, the main purposes of the study are both to predict physical damages to be expected on structures that may be affected by these floods and to predict and analyze flood vulnerability. At the beginning of the study, the reasons for selecting the study area are explained, the region is introduced, land use map of Değirmendere Basin is obtained and some knowledge about floods with 100 and 500 years return periods is presented. Detailed topographic maps of the area are then obtained through topographic studies. In this context, digital elevation maps are prepared and by using satellite data; settlement areas, roads, buildings and streams are handled on these maps. The expected water surface profiles and water depths for the determined flood discharges are predicted by using HEC-RAS package. In this sense, by using flood risk maps, the area and mean water depth values for the structures, which are expected to be inundated, and as a result, flood damages are predicted. Flood vulnerability analyses related to land structure, Trabzon Harbor, environmental and geologic issues are also presented in the study.
