      In this thesis, reliability analysis of structures is carried out with improved response surface method. Accordingly, reliability analysis of implicit limit state functions is carried out with algorithm developed by using explicit FERUM reliability analysis program. This developed algorithm is designed with the aim of removing the deficiencies of the classical response surface method and combined with ANSYS finite element program, which has a peculiar programming language and batch mode, to make reliability analysis of implicit limit state function.

To compare algorithm developed in thesis with the other methods, various studies have also been conducted. These are: 1. The addition of classical response surface method to FERUM 2. The combination of FERUM-ANSYS for implicit limit state functions 3. The combination of the classical response surface method with ANSYS.

      A lot of examples are given to show the validity of improved algorithm and other studies. In particular, the selected examples for improved algorithm include different element types in terms of representing each type of structures.

To the results acquired by the examples, in general, the results procured by reliability analysis with improved response surface method yield either better results than the results acquired by other methods or show parallelism with them. Consequently, it is proved that the algorithm is effective and accurate.

      This thesis is composed of three chapters. In the first chapter, some information is given regarding the methods used and calculation steps are displayed.

In the second chapter, the details of improved response surface method are given and the results are shown on the selected examples with the other studies.

      In the third chapter, the results acquired by the study and suggestions for further studies are presented.

Finally, these three chapters are followed by references and the appendix involving main codes of improved algorithm.
