Summary:

      The development of powerline communication that was introduced in 1938 has been slow to progress until the 1990’s because of technological deficiencies. Starting from the 1990’s, it has showed fast development due to continual improvements in semiconductor technology and the advancement of new modulation techniques.

In powerline communication, existing electrical lines are used to provide communication services to homes and businesses and high speed indoor communication running various multimedia applications. Researches about powerline communication technology are intensified for areas such as automation, broadband communication applications, automatic meter reading (AMR) and internet over powerline (IPL).

      In this study, a model is developed to simulate the behavior of a powerline communication system. A simulation program called PLSIM (Powerline Simulator) is implemented and background noise of powerline was observed in time domain, using inductive coupling technique.
