The objective of this study is to realize e design of microstrip patch array antenna by using operation principles of microstrip antenna. Understanding of an antenna operation behavior is a key element for successfull design.
From there, after having presented, types of microstrip antennas, its advantages and disadvantages in the first section, radiation mechanism and various single element design types has been described in the second section. In the third section new feeding techniques has been described. In the fourth section, design features regarding circularly polarized elements that employment of it is convenient in the cases of linear polarization has not been preferred is presented. In the fifth section, several approaches have been presented to remove the narrow bandwidths major limitation of the microstrip antennas.
In the sisxth section, architectures employed to realize narrow beamwidths has been described and in the seventh section, an example of two dimensional corporate-fed microstrip patch array has been presented.
Sofware program added in the CAD of Microstrip Antennas for Wireless Applications book is used in the verification stages of operations while following the design procedure. In the design, the effects of step change in widths at the junctions of two lines has not been accounted for.
