Complying with its mission and vision, Department of Mining Engineering of Karadeniz Technical University offers a rich curriculum with compulsory and elective courses supported by laboratory and practical sessions on natural science, engineering, social science, mining and mineral processing. Based on the attributes of the graduates, the Department aspires to achieve the following program educational objectives.
The graduates will:
1) Assume engineering responsibilities in open-pit and underground mining, mineral and coal processing operations,
2) Have the required knowledge on mine prospecting, exploration and mapping, cautious blasting, tunnelling and soil mechanics,
3) Have the competence to describe engineering problems within an analytical approach and take initiative to solve them.
4) Prepare and appraise technical and economic feasibility of mining and minerals engineering design projects,
5) Be aware of continuous education for intellectual and professional development, and exploit computer and information technologies
6) Have a comprehension of mining law, environmental issues in mining, occupational health and safety, an awareness of the values of society and environment, professional and ethical responsibilities,
7) Be capable of team work and effective communication
