Karadeniz Technical University provides two different types of guidance to its students: a) administrative guidance, b) academic guidance.
a) Administrative Guidance
The administrative staff both in the academic units and the directorates of Student Affairs, and Health, Culture and Sports is there to help students on any matter. They are accessible to students during working hours and provide information on procedures and resources. Students can contact the appropriate office if they have questions related to their educational program or practicum.
b) Academic Guidance
Each new coming student is provided with an academic contact within the department the students has enrolled. The contact point is in essence academic advisors for students. They are available to the students throughout the program for discussion, brain storming, advice, etc.. Every faculty member has a number of student advisees, and their activities in counseling include the following:
Consultation with the faculty advisor as an educational resource is particularly useful when decisions and choices are expected such as selection of practicum options and placement, selection of courses and discussion of outside department courses. The students also are free to consult with any other faculty member.
KTU offers psychological guidance and counselling to its students whenever they need it. A psychiatrist is available during working hours at weekdays in the medical clinic on the main campus as well as on the Fatih-Söğütlü campus, and the students can visit him / her free of charge at times of difficulty, especially during the exam period.
