Since its establishment, Karadeniz Technical University has been heavily involved in international cooperation. Over the past few years, however, it has realised an enormous increase in international activities involving staff and student exchanges with universities in Japan, Central Asian Turkic republics, United States and many countries in Europe.
Karadeniz Technical University is one of the first universities in Turkey to join the Socrates-Erasmus program in 2004. Since then, the number of bilateral agreements and the number of outgoing and incoming exchange students have increased steadily. We were also trying to increase our share in other programmes such as Leonardo da Vinci, Lingua, Commenius, Grundtwig, as well as FP6/FP7. Since 2014 KTU has involved in Erasmus+ Programme and Mevlana Exchange Programme.
The university holds an extended Erasmus charter and has the right to send its students to European countries for traineeship. This programme is highly popular among the students of especially the Faculties of Engineering, Architecture and Forestry where professional practice or internship is a prerequisite for graduation and is compulsory in the curriculum.
Recent attempts of the university in relation to international programmes include setting up joint degree programmes at all levels with higher education institutions in European and non-European countires.
